Material Spotlight: Glass

In the last century, glass has emerged as a broadly accepted (and highly engineered) material throughout the building industry. We have learned from researchers at MIT that it can be manufactured to be stronger and tougher than steel, while at the same time delicate enough to be embedded with touch screens and intelligent electrochromics. At this point, we are continually surrounded by such discretely functioning glass that we do not even notice it.

As technology moves forward, we must start to consider glass as an entirely new product—one that will interface with our environment in new ways. These new forms of glass continually provide us with the opportunity to offer new visual and spatial experiences to users. As such, we love to keep tabs on our favorite glass manufacturers.

Founded the same year as CAMA, Skyline Design has been dedicated to blending ‘creative expression’ with the most advanced technologies for over 30 years. As a broadly recognized innovator in the field, Skyline Design’s inventive processes expand the possibilities of glass to improve the utility and beauty of the places where we live, learn, work, play, and heal.
